Hi-Rez
Many times when that next track plays on an album you can guess that it will pretty much sound the same as the last. Not with this group. Hi-Rez has such a wide range of style that their music doesn’t fit so easy in the typical rap or hip hop genre alone. Each of their albums brings a new concept and sound but still holding on to that haunting sound, vibrant imagery, and atypical lyrics. Their first release,Dark Matter, in 2005 was their first collection of works dating back to the group’s beginning in 2001. Dark Matter is psychological concept album with many tracks influenced by nineties horrorcore such as the Gravediggaz. The second release, Frozun Explosions, later in 2005, is a very concentrated album with many raw, energetic tracks, with a lot of comical, off the wall lyrics. In 2006 Hi-Rez released its 3rd album, 444 Purple Level 4. This album has a very unique and distinct sound from their other projects. With melodic vocals on the majority of the material laced with serine trip hop beats creates a dark surreality. Many of these tracks can be called morbid lullabies for which the erie, yet peaceful cover art portrays. When looking at this cover you can almost hear this corpse listening to Purify, a song about decomposing into the earth. Hi-Rez is currently finishing up work on their 4th album and also beginning two side projects.
